Tired of reading a lot about Search Engine Optimization SEO all over the web? Wonder why SEO is so over rated and damn confusing? Cannot decide among two conflicting views on the same SEO topic?

Then this is the right place for you to begin. Presenting you with the very barebones of Search Engine Optimization. These may not get your site to Google’s first page overnight. But these practice will certainly give you the following :

Make your pages more Search Engine Friendly

All techniques are White Hat, so you don’t get penalized

Overtime you will see, your pages would evolve as strong contender for higher Search Engine Rank Pages (SERPs)

There are other more focused approaches to get certain keywords or certain pages of your site higher up the Search Engine Rank Pages, but I will cover them later.

I will have this mini series in three parts:

Basics of Search Engine Optimization

Onsite Search Engine Optimization

Offsite Search Engine Optimization

Onsite SEO vs. Offsite SEO

Lets just skip the very basics of what SEO is and how Search Engine works and directly dwells into the nitty gritty of the SEO arena.

All SEO related activities can be roughly classified into two categories. Onsite SEO and Offsite SEO. The idea behind it is really simple. All SEO work done by you on your domain is termed Onsite SEO. while all work done by you / others on any domain other than yours, can be termed as Offsite SEO.

Which is more important? Onsite vs Offsite

This is a very common question asked by newbie. Then general answer to this is always “Although it depends on case to case, both are very different approaches”. Its like Offsite SEO is your election campaign, where as Onsite SEO is how god the synergy is between your campaigners.

So, where to start?

You can start anywhere. Every time you comment on someone other’s blog you are contributing to your site’s Offsite SEO. While every time you create a Alt tag you are adding weight to your Onsite SEO.

But I would suggest you to begin with Onsite SEO and then move to Offsite SEO. First make your site perfectly harmonious to the Search Engine with well laid out navigation, alt tags, internal structure etc. Then go on working on Offsite SEO.

Remember SEO techniques covered in this series are the very basic ones. This should be cultivated into a habit rather than a one time exercise. If you have a existing site not optimize for Meta tags, Alt Titles then it is advisable to work on it and not leave then as bygones.

So in the next part I will begin with Onsite SEO tips, followed by Offsite SEO tips. Hang on till then.
