Justin has added another beautiful parent theme named “Retro fitted” under the Hybrid Theme Framework. Retro fitted is a full fledge parent theme build on the Hybrid Core Framework. It is completely free and uses the rock solid Hybrid which is among the most popular WordPress Theme Frameworks available out there.

Features of the Retro-fitted Theme:

Per-post/page layouts (one-column, two-column, and three-column layouts).
Art direction (the ability to add custom, per-post stylesheets).
Custom widgets (overwrites the default WordPress widgets with better alternatives).

Hybrid Core: WordPress theme framework by Justin Tadlock

Hybrid core is a free WordPress theme framework developed by Justin Tadlock. It will help developers make their own parent themes by using a set of conventions and PHP scripts for handling common functionality within themes.

Hybrid core is not a WordPress theme. Its a Theme Framework. What does it means? As a theme user, you can not put the theme in your Themes Folder and start using it. It is for Theme developers to build solid parent themes quickly.

Confused..??

Let me clear it.. WordPress themes are a nice way of customizing the front end of your blog. However, every time a change was required, the user has to wither modify the theme or switch to a new theme. It became had not only for the blog owners but also for the theme developers, as with every iterations, they have to remember exactly what needs to be changed in the code.

Enter Parent Theme to the rescue. Parent Theme were developed to address this issue. So, the theme developers made a generic theme with all the features packed into a parent theme. Now all they need to do was to extend the Parent Theme into child theme to satisfy each of Blog owner’s needs.

Child theme are nothing more than CSS file plus functions.php file which basically tell the WordPress how to display the theme plus any small modifications. However, there were some modifications which were not possible by just editing the functions.php file / CSS code. Even if they were possible, the changes done made the child theme very complex. Another approach was to handle it by editing the Parent Theme file (which basically killed the whole purpose of using Child themes).

For Developers it became difficult to keep building more and more Parent Theme with new functionalities. To counter this limitations, Theme Framework like Hybrid core was developed. Hybrid Core helps theme developers to quickly build Parent Theme as per their requirements and then pack them with Child themes of your choice.

It is a win-win situation. Framework developers can concentrate on the Theme Framework, theme developers can focus on extending the Framework in their Parent Themes, while Blog Owners can restrict themselves to the Child Themes (which if deployed properly should consist of only basic CSS code and functions.php file only).

Open Graph API will help Facebook to reach wider Userbase including Corporates

Facebook would soon open up new set of API called “Open Graph API”. Although the details as of now are sketchy, the basic idea is to reach a larger Audience compare to Facebook Connect. Couple of important points that Facebook needs to accomplish using Open Graph API are as follows:

Reach a wider audience. Special focus on Corporates and Bbusiness Users
Give Website Owner the ability to wrap their websites witha Facebook blanket
Include sites which do not have a Facebook Fan page or Do not wishes to ahve a Facbook Fan Page
Collect data / statistics from traffic flowing through this services

Seems interesting. How the service will work and what features can be accessed via the API, only time wil. tell. Although we can feel rivalry building up here between Google’s Open Social vs Facebook’s Open Graph already.

Small change by Twitter killed Tweleted

Tweleted is a nice little service which has only one purpose. Find your deleted Tweets for you. But since now Twitter is removing User deleted Tweets from its Search Index and API also, Tweleted is a dead scoop.

It is said that the change is been done by Twitter in order to avoid having User Deleted Tweets in the Search Result, now that both Google and Bing have done a deal with Twitter to add Realtime Twitter updates in its Search Result.

Deleted Tweets would be removed from Twitter Search Index

Twitter has now decided to remove deleted Tweets from Twitter Search Index. It is a little known bug which no one ever notices, but the point is uptill now Twitter used to keep your deleted Tweets in its Search Index even after you have deleted it.

The problem arises when you mistakenly tweet something and later regret saying it. Good news is that, the bug has been rectified. now Twitter Search Index and all other Programs using Twitter API would remove any deleted tweet from its Search Index. *Smile*

Theme Hybrid added another Child Theme in their Arsenal. Critical Child Theme uses custom taxonomy in WordPress to help create a database of movies (as seen in the demo). This can in turn be modified to create any database you want and display the content accordingly. Give it a try, if you are looking out for something similiar.

5 Tips to get your RSS Readers to Visit the Blog

Learn how to get your RSS Reader to visit your Blog. Doing that you can increase your Pageviews with quality visits, and earn more from the new set of visitors.

High number of RSS Readers denotes the Blog Authority. It states that the Blog has a long list of followers who constantly read the articles published here. However, there is a big disadvantage when it comes to the RSS Reader. It seriously limits your earning potential and decreases pages views from returning visitors. Also RSS Ads have proved to convert very poorly. Even though you would not want to lose your RSS Readers, often you would like them to visit your Blog. Let’s try how to accomplish this task.

1. Deliver only Excerpts via RSS

Probably the best way to bring your RSS Readers to your Blog is to provide them only with Post Excerpts. This way you almost gaurantee their visit to your Blog. However, it comes at a price. It may happen that your content in the Title and the Excerpts is not great and thus results in the Readers to ignore it altogether.

2. Link to other Post

Another sure shot way to get your Subscriber to your Blog is to link Content to previous post or other Parts of your Blog. This way if the RSS Subscriber wants to know more, will have to read the link, which in turn will take it to the Blog.

3. Write Content People want to Tweet or Bookmark

Write post which contains useful links and resources which people would like to Tweet or Share with other people. Although this is not common for a Text only post, unless you are a great writer, it would certianly work with posts containing lots of Links to sueful resources. It is a general tendency for people to open your post in the Browser to Bookmark and Share.

4. Redesign the Blog, change Theme or Layout

Redesign the Blog by changing the Theme or the Layout or add a Category to the Page Menu. Then write about it. Since the content are not available in the RSS Reader, it will cause them to visit your Blog and check it out. Do not use this trick too often as it might be irritating for the RSS Readers.

5. Encourage Reader to post Comments

Finally write an awesome post and encourage your readers to comment on it. You can also try with asking an open ended question and asking for views. This would encourage the Subscribers to visit your Blog and comment on it, to build a discussion.

Flippa is the rebranded Sitepoint Marketplace. It is a good juncture to buy and sell sites, although its a bit more costly now.

Sitepoint marketplace was a well known destination for buying and selling website. You could list your site for free or pay a premium for Special listing. Recently Sitepoint have rebranded their marketplace into a brand new entity called Flippa.

Flippa is a Online Marketplace to buy and sell your sites. They have given it a brand new Web 2.0 look and hiked the listing and transaction fees. This caused a lot of criticism among the potential users. Especially the hike in listing fee which includes the Smart Pricing style Success Fee ranging from $5 to maximum $500. Flippa does not take any respon

Here are the listing fees:

$19 for basic listing
$5 bottom to $498 cap for Success Fee (5% of the transaction)
$5 for highlighting your lsiting in bold or row highlighted
$19 for hiding the listing from Search Engines
$29 for listing to appear on the front page for limited time

We have yet to see how this one will fare. But going by their past experience, I have reason to believe this would be a great service. Go check.
