Open Graph API will help Facebook to reach wider Userbase including Corporates

Facebook would soon open up new set of API called “Open Graph API”. Although the details as of now are sketchy, the basic idea is to reach a larger Audience compare to Facebook Connect. Couple of important points that Facebook needs to accomplish using Open Graph API are as follows:

Reach a wider audience. Special focus on Corporates and Bbusiness Users
Give Website Owner the ability to wrap their websites witha Facebook blanket
Include sites which do not have a Facebook Fan page or Do not wishes to ahve a Facbook Fan Page
Collect data / statistics from traffic flowing through this services

Seems interesting. How the service will work and what features can be accessed via the API, only time wil. tell. Although we can feel rivalry building up here between Google’s Open Social vs Facebook’s Open Graph already.

Small change by Twitter killed Tweleted

Tweleted is a nice little service which has only one purpose. Find your deleted Tweets for you. But since now Twitter is removing User deleted Tweets from its Search Index and API also, Tweleted is a dead scoop.

It is said that the change is been done by Twitter in order to avoid having User Deleted Tweets in the Search Result, now that both Google and Bing have done a deal with Twitter to add Realtime Twitter updates in its Search Result.

Deleted Tweets would be removed from Twitter Search Index

Twitter has now decided to remove deleted Tweets from Twitter Search Index. It is a little known bug which no one ever notices, but the point is uptill now Twitter used to keep your deleted Tweets in its Search Index even after you have deleted it.

The problem arises when you mistakenly tweet something and later regret saying it. Good news is that, the bug has been rectified. now Twitter Search Index and all other Programs using Twitter API would remove any deleted tweet from its Search Index. *Smile*

Google Translate adds Persian Language (Alpha Version)

Youtube costs Google $700 Million annually

Most popular video sharing site Youtube, now under Google, costs $700 Million annually and generates only $240 Million. That’s half a billion loss per year.

Shocking but true. According to a Credit Suisse report, most popular Video sharing site and one of the top 10 sites among All Categories, Youtube costs Google almost half a billion every year.

Social media site grow like magnet with inorganic rates. However the most important problem is that none of the major Social Networking, Bookmarking and Content Sharing sites have been able to break even. Almost all are experiencing losses, be it Facebook, MySpace, Digg. Twitter etc. you name it. All are fancying their chances of getting a green bottom line by converting their traffic into revenue generation model.

Even Google has been unsuccessful to break even with Youtube. It is experiencing an estimated loss of $460 million most of which are accounted for under Content Overhead and Bandwidth

WordPress 2.8 final version released. Upgrade time..!!

Final version of popular Blog application WordPress 2.8 was released to the general public. Only couple of days back teh RC (Release Candidate) was reelased for deployment.

Its upgrade time for all folks running their blogs on WordPress platform. WordPress earlier today released the final verison of their WordPress 2.8. Wodpress 2.8 does not bring drastic changes in the presentation and layout but there are many changes under the hood. Hopefully these changes will not break majority of the themes. Most prominent changes in this version are:

Theme Browser
Reworked Admin Layout
Updated Admin Schemas
Revamped Widget Areas
Updated Falsh Uploader

Grab your Facebook Username in Profile URL.. Hurry..!!

Facebook will allow you to have username as a part of your profile URL. Grab it before someone else does. June 13 – 12.01 AM EDT.

Facebok recently announced that it will provide a way for adding Usernames in the Profile ID from now on. This will make your profiles easier to remember by your friends and followers.

So instead of having something like “http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=604811110” would be changed to something like “http://www.facebook.com/thinkjayant” Cool isn’t it. However the main problem with such a thing is that Common Names would be taken up too fast. So if you want to grab something like http://www.facebook.com/john or http://www.facebook.com/jennifer then you better remember the time as it will be given on a first come first serve basis.

Date to remember: June 13 2009 – 12.01 AM EDT

Grabing such a name gives you an edge when people searches your name in search engine like Google. you result have a greater chances to come up on the top. So what are you waiting for..!! Go for it..!! And have a nice day..!!

SU.PR – URL Shortening Service from Stumbleupon

StumbleUpon announced an URL Shortner Service called SU.PR which has the Real time Stats and StumbleUpon Toolbar features built in along with the ability to post on Twitter and Facebook.

Http://su.pr – will take you to StumblesUpon’s private Beta for the upcoming Stumbleupon URL Shortner Service. However its not just any other URL Shortner. It adds StumbleUpon Toolbar features right into it. It is currently into private Beta Stage s you would have to request access and wait for it. Once access is granted and you can create a seperate account or us your existing StumblUpon username to login into it.

You can create a short version of your URL plus you can also

Post it on Twitter and Facebook with a short Message
Schedule to automatically post at a certain time
See stats about your link in Real time from your Su.pr account

But what most important change from other URL shortner services is that, when a user clicks on the SU.pr link, they are presented with the webpage which includes the StumbleUpon Tolbar. So in short they are encouraged to Like, Dislike, Stumble, Favorite and Comment on the Webpage.

In short SU.pr seems like a great service for StumbleUpon to get additional traffic via services like Twwiter where URL shortner are craze. However, lets hope StumbleUpon does not do the same mistake DiggBar did.

MS Bing replaces Yahoo Search as Second Largest Search Engine

Microsoft Bing have replaced Yahoo Search as the second largest Search Engine according to Statcounter.

Microsoft Bing, the new Beta Search Engine termed as “The Decision Engine” has already replaced Yahoo Search to become the second largest Search Engine by market share. According to Statcounter Global Stats, on Thursday june 4th, 2009 – Bing commanded 16.28% compare to Yahoo’s 10.22% and Google’s 71.47% of the United States Search Engine Market. Globally also Bing Search seems to leapfrogged to 5.62% compare to that of Yahoo Search’s 5.13% and Google Search’s 87.62%.

Both these data suggests clearly there is excitement and curiosity regarding Microsoft Bing. Although the initial reaction is positive, only time will tell if Microsoft can deliver relevant result to its Search Engine Visitors and there by increase its user base.
