Here are some Adsense related tips to remember for all the new comers and excerpts alike. They might look very easy to begin with but you will realize, inspite of that very few people apply them. So go over them and improve your Adsense Earnings.

Ignore High Paying Keywords

This is the first thing I would say you to note down. The big Adsense Money Makers are not the one making $3 per click, 4 clicks a day. But rather they are the one doing $0.2 per click 100 clicks a day. So avoid the Gold Rush behind high adsense paying keywords and rather concentrate on low paying ones which have much less competition.

More is better… for Content

Believe me, Google is very partial. They show the door open to everybody but they are partial for sites which are bigger and having more content. So instead of making 4 website with 10 pages of content, rather make one website with four different categories.

Balance Content and Ads above the Fold

Avoid what some Marketers calls “In-your-face-ads” and rather maintain a fair balance of Content and Ads above the fold. A rough estimate of 70% area for Content and 30% area for Ads would do perfect. But then again it depends on the Domain Area also.

Use Smart Ad Placement

Place Link Ads near the Navigation Menu. Use Block Ads near the Featured Article. Use Link Ads in your Sidebar. Use Vertical Ladder Ads in the Sidebar. Use Short Banner Image Ads near the Comments section of your Blog. – What I have done here is placed an Ad that fit the given section of the Website. Although avoid Ads directly below the Title Line and Image and Google seems to penalize such actions.

PLR works as long as they are mixed with Original Content

PLR or content freely available on the Internet for publishing without any credit can be used in your Website running for Adsense. Google does not penalize you for that as long as you mix it up well with Original Content. I cannot confirm an exact ratio per se, but a 60% PLR and 40% Original would be a fair estimate. But then avoid PLR are too much repetitive and pops everywhere on the Internet. So, this cut down your task of adding Content into half. Now you can allocate time to write more quality post.

Grey Hat Methods works… but in the Short Term only

Grey Hat methods are nothing but testing the Google Algorithm and exploiting it to gain more share of Google Traffic. These methods works but only until Google Changes its Algorithm, which is more frequent now-a-days.

Blend your Ads or Lose Money Potential

Nothing new here. Google give you an opportunity to blend your Ad’s Color Scheme to match your Website. Make use of it, especially the color denoted for the Hyperlinks on your site and your Ads. Avoid High Contrast Ad Color Scheme as they will stand out in the visitor’s eye and pretty soon you will have a case of Ad Blindness.

The Magic of Color Blue

Internet users are used to click Blue Color link as Hyperlink. So it is advisable if you have your website and Ads’s Hyperlink as Blue. It has more to do with how mind thinks and learns a process by associating it with some memory. So a color test done on people would yield BLUE as the more likable color for Hyperlinks. So why not stick with it. It works better if your Background is White to go with.

Search Engine Optimization

Finally the SEO thing. Never stop optimizing your site. It’s a cut throat competition. Google has its say and that will decide the fate of your Blog. To compete for higher SERPS, you have to make sure you keep utilizing Onsite and Offsite SEO techniques.

Try Ad Targeting

This is a good method to dictate what Ads would come up in the block you have put up on the website. This works better when you have an Ad block between two paragraphs. Now the key is to use both the paragraphs and sprinkle few keywords for which the Ads you want to appear. Remember to not put too many keywords else it will harm your site.

It became second nature for visitors to ignore any page they come across as Sales Page or In Your Face Ads, there by increasing the bounce rate if these sites to alarming level. Few bloggers burnt there hand by promoting Affiliate Links too heavily and getting the stick from Big Daddy Google in their SERPs. Soon there was a new need. To display Advertisements in a way that is less obtrusive and yet help keep the money flowing in. Let us try to understand some ways in which we can show Ads without irritating Visitors.

Avoid Showing Ads on Front Page

Front page of your blog is usually the most popular page and the primary entry point to you rest of the Pages. The main aim of this page should be to reduce the Bounce Rate to a minimum. Showing Ads in the front page hurts in 3 main ways. First, it makes your site looks like a Ad promoted site, which reversely affects the perception quality of your content. Second, it takes up important screen real estate. Third, Affiliate ads are harmful for your SERPs.

Show CPM Ads in a Empty Corner of your Blog

What is it with the CPM (Cost per Impression Ads) anyway? Isn’t it a marketing gimmick. Just another cleverly thought out plan to squeeze more money from the Advertisers by charing them not for the number of clicks but the number of times the Ads are displayed. So, if you are going to be paid only for the display of Ads and their click ratio are very low, why not keep their exposure to the minimum. Place them in a place where they won’t fight for attention against your Blog’s Content. Such place would be bottom of sidebar (better if you have a three column layout), Below Comments on Individual Posts, Footer Widgets etc.

Avoid Large Ads above the line

My first mistake was to use a 350 pixel wide rectangle Adsense Code on my individual posts, just below the Title Line. It seemed like a good idea. Well, the Ad has a stats of getting the maximum rating, displays very vividly and would eventually be good for me. However I was horribly wrong.

What I did not realize was, my Website’s Bounce Rate was increasing dramatically. I figured this was the most important reason. It was simple. Most of my Visitors entered the site via Google Search Pages, which means they land directly to the page of their interest. Now imagine this, seeing a large rectangle Adsense Block right between the Title Line and the post content immediately following it. Before any chance of engaing with the flow of the topic, I am breaking it. This would be more prevalent in case of Smartphone and Netbook Users. Now that I know the mistake, I would be rectifying it and would advise you also.

Use the Content Block between the Post and Comments

You should be looking out for User Action on your Blog to devise a strategy for placing Ads. One important place is End of the Post. At the end of the post there is a sure shot possibility of any three of the following actions to happen:

1. Looking for Related Content
2. Looking for Engagement via Comments
3. Bounce out of your Website

The key point here is that, one of this action is gauranteed to happen. Which means the Visitor’s click ratio here would be the greatest and can effectively be used.

Avoid Ads in other Pages (Categories, Archives, Authors, Tags etc)

Best way to manage your Ads would be to keep it confined to Individual Post Pages and Sidebar. However you can also include Header Banner as they fetch good money. Apart from that,  your Blog should look like Ad free one.

You may ask why. The logic again remains the same. The front page is important as it gets the maximum visibility. On the other hand individual psots are the ones where the main content lies. So apart from these two sections, other sections should be Ad Free and help Visitors navigate the blog.

Make use of In Text Advertising

In text Advertising are a nice way to save Screen Real Estate taken up by Ad Blocks. Also the display of the Ads in that case are initiated by the Visitor itself making then have a higher Click Ratio. More importantly, they are less obtrusive and good on the Eye.

Avoid Tons of Affiliate Links

Some Blogger thinks a statement at the end of the post declaring “This post contains Affiliate Link” is enough. However they do not realize the decrease in teh value of SERPs that happen over time. When the next Pagerank Update happens,  they are found asking questions and reasoning why their Pagerank decreased?

Your webpage is a representation of a chain in the Algorithm the Search Engine Crawlers uses to determine the Usefulness of a links coming in and going out. Avoid using tons of Affiliate links. If your affiliate Product keytext appears 20 times, do not go blindly and add the link to all twenty occurence.

It is a nice concept. Basically they ahve manage to use the popularity of Twitter and the ease of use of services like Paypal/Amazon Payments. It works great. Its secured. And the all transactions are handled by a trusted brand like Amazon. What more do you want..??

Drop Shipping:

1. Tie-ups with multiple wholesalers and aggregates a huge list of product available
2. Sells the products
3. Passes the order details to Wholesaler who ships it along with the retailer’s label etc.

Ex: Imaging you buying a Laptop for $800 plus $30 shipping from Amazon. So when you make the payment, Amazon might contact say BlueDart or FedEx or someone with whom it have the tie-up and transfer the order request. Now it is the job of the wholesaler to deliver the package to you as if it was delivered by Amazon

Advantages to Retailers:

1. No inventory cost (makes a huge difference)
2. No shipping cost and hassles
3. Buy at wholesale price, sell at retail price
4. Easier to maintain a huge list
5. Less risky
6. Less working capital required. (read Negative Working Capital)

Dis-Advantages to Retailers:

1. No entry barriers means constant new entrants
2. Works only for Online / Catalog type items
3. Success to the business depends on the margin you have with the wholesaler

A business model where the customer pays first, even before the company spend in acquiring the product, the Working Capital is negative. This model was first popularized by Dell)

As you see, this business model is better than the traditional model. It lets retailers focus on marketing and offloads them with storage and delivery tasks. However, the success of such a business model lies on the following factors:

1. Availability of wholesaler for the products
2. Cracking good deals with wholesaler
3. Performance of the wholesaler with delivery (timely delivery and packaging)
4. Real time tracking service availability
5. Bearing cost for DOA (Damage on Arrival) goods

Drop shipping business model have gain a lot of popularity because of its low entry barriers and better margins. Amazon, Newegg, PriceGrabber are good examples.
