Joke
A man who hated his mother-in-law got three wishes from a genie.
Genie: “Whatever you wish for, your mother-in-law gets DOUBLE.”
First wish: “I would like one billion dollars.”
Genie: “Ok but mom get’s two billion.”
Second wish: “I would like an island off the coast of Greece.”
Genie: “OK but mom get’s two islands.”
Third wish: ” I would like you to beat me half to death.”
Monster-in-Law
You love her, you hate her. But the truth is you just can’t ignore her. Let me repeat it again. YOU JUST CAN’T IGNORE HER. And moreover you don’t have to be married to just find that out (Since I am unmarried, my cousins helped me out here).
For every blogger, his blog also holds the same Mother-in-Law status. Most of the first time bloggers starts with a great idea and commits to it in the initial days. But after sometime, as we say, the excitement wears off, the reality starts digging in.
You run out of ideas (well frankly most of us does). You feel the qualities of post you are posting are not the same when you started. The frequency of your posts goes for a toss. That’s when you realize about your potential readers and how you just can’t afford to ignore them.
What about their expectations from you? What about the status you enjoy with them? Who will pay for your credit card bills once Ad revenues drop? Now you are in a fix. Little did you realize that things would get interwoven like this?
Blog or Relationship – they needs a little bit of following to keep it sound and healthy in the long run.
Accept the Responsibility
As uncle Ben from Spiderman @ Marvel Comics said, “With Greater Power Comes Greater Responsibility”. It holds true with us in all walks of life. For those who believe Blogging cost noting, I would beg to differ. Putting up a Blog post does cost nothing. But Blogging does.
You have your online personality at stake. A personality that you have nurtured over a period of time to what it is now. There are expectations. There are followers. They come by to visit your Blog. They like the niche you created. They want to hear more from you. Isn’t it enough to accept more responsibility for it?
Perseverance is the Key
Perseverance is trying again and again and again. Is it difficult to succeed? No. But is it difficult to succeed, whatever the situation? Probably yes. What differentiate the two questions? Its same as asking would you like for once to rank highest in a search engine versus would you consistently like to rank among the highest.
What ever your research methodology is, dedicate time and effort to it for generating output. As Napoleon puts it “Victory belongs to the most persevering”
Look ways to Impress
You don’t have to be rocket scientist to figure it out. As is the case in relationship, you can also impress your readers from time to time.
It can be anything from a small, difficult to notice line to a complete post in itself. I am not asking you to distribute giveaways; I am asking you to focus on the content. For instance, you have a blog talking about great personalities. Try to find unique or hard to find features / characteristics of them.
I like Winsupersite.com by Paul Thurrott for reviews related to Microsoft product. The reason I keep going back to him is because of his consistency, focus on the matter and in depth reviews he provide. Do note that he is not always the first one to provide review on a new product declared / feature announced. But still I keep coming back to him. Get the point..??
Do it from your Heart
Aahh..!! This is the essence of any good blogger. Do it from heart and you reap the rewards it brings. Try doing it for monetary gains and the pressure / pain doubles.
Take Darren Rowse from Problogger.net , how he keeps on churning out post after post of quality material for newbie and professional bloggers alike. He acknowledges his love for the medium in his description. While he has taken blogging as a full time occupation, most of us can’t do it. But that does not stops us from finding.
Enjoy it
Blogging is a constant ongoing activity for a dedicated Blogger. It takes a lot of effort. It is time consuming. Know it in the very beginning. Continue blogging only on topics you love. Accept the responsibility it brings. Be dedicated to it. Try to impress your readers with your effort. And while doing so, keep enjoying all the way.
It’s only once you appreciate your relationship with your readers that you would know what I meant to say. Whether you see her as Monster-in-Law or a Mother depends on you and solely yourself. Take your decision.
For all battered timid souls who could not yet resolve the mystery behind their Monster-in-Law could read the following article for dealing with them
PS: I am not married as yet. Just hope my future mother-in-law does not find this blog while stumbling the net. Love you Momma.
